Four lanes, one pool deck

Swim programs for Atlanta kids, age 5 to Senior

The City of Atlanta Dolphins run one year-round team with four practice groups. A new swimmer is placed by a stroke evaluation, trains Monday to Friday, and moves to the next lane as strokes and times improve.

  1. 1

    DSL / Baby Dolphins

Guided Novice, age 5 and older

5:00 to 6:00 PM, Mon to Fri

The entry lane. Swimmers learn the strokes, the lane rules and how a practice runs before they race.

  2. 2

    Age Group 2

Competitive youth, age 7 and up

5:00 to 6:00 PM, Mon to Fri

Racing begins here. Stroke technique, turns and the first seasons of meets.

  3. 3

    Age Group 1

Competitive youth, age 7 and up

6:00 to 7:30 PM, Mon to Fri

A longer evening session for swimmers whose strokes and times have moved them up.

  4. 4

    Senior

    Placed by evaluation

6:00 to 8:30 PM, Mon to Fri

The longest session on the schedule, for the team's most skilled swimmers.

Times are the team's published practice schedule. The full week, including the evaluation slot, is on the practice schedule.

The way in is the wall

Every swimmer starts with a stroke evaluation

Membership is accepted all year, and there is no tryout date to wait for. Coaching staff evaluate strokes Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 4:45 PM. The results place the swimmer into the team structure, which is how a seven-year-old with a strong freestyle and a five-year-old new to the water each land in the right lane.

To book, call Alicia Mckissick at Adamsville Natatorium on (404) 505-3189, or email Head Coach Tommy Jackson at coachjackson@swimcad.com. Read how the stroke evaluation works before you come.

Same pool, same rules

What every group shares, from Baby Dolphins to Senior

  • Five days a week

Every group trains Monday to Friday. The hours differ by group; the weekday rhythm does not.

  • Dry land with standards

Land training has its own written standards and procedures, with a clear ladder from a verbal warning to a call home.

  • Circle swimming

Swimmers learn the team's traffic patterns, the rules of the road that keep a full lane moving without collisions.

  • Meets on the calendar

The team hosts four meets a year, two short course (25 yards) and two long course (50 meter), and travels to others.

The team is a program of the City of Atlanta Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, so registration is priced for City residents and non-residents. Amounts and the USA Swimming membership steps are on the procedures page, and the meet information page lists the invitationals the Dolphins host.
